As an independent nonprofit organization, the Foundation is the primary fundraising and alumni relations institution for NMSU. Essential Functions:

  • Plans, organizes, and formats brochures, articles, newsletters, scripts, speeches, stories, programs, correspondence, proposals, and other internal and external communications products.
  • Plans concepts and performs independent research and investigation in the development of written pieces.
  • Analyzes information for quality of reporting and relevance to subject matter; interprets and synthesizes information into appropriate documents.
  • Creates, writes, edits, and prepares copy on a range of subject matters relevant to the Foundation.
  • Plans layout of work, arranging sequence of topics and placement of graphics as applicable.
  • Proofreads all copy and makes corrections as necessary prior to publication.
  • Participates in decision-making regarding the general direction, focus, scope, and format of the document.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education, Knowledge, Experience & Certification/License:

  • An energetic, well-grounded, innovative, service-oriented personality and calculated risk taker with a bias for action, a record of setting and surpassing objectives, and a proven “can do” attitude and drive to execute strategies and produce results beyond expectations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of writing, editorial, journalism, and associated applications and programs.
  • Knowledge of journalistic research and investigation principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the underlying issues and concerns associated with the documents being produced.
  • Knowledge of print and electronic publication procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends and issues within area of expertise.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Skill in developing design and layout of materials to be published.
  • Ability to create, plan, and develop deliverables.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish preferred

Job Family Levels:

  • Level I:
    • Bachelor's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position.
    • No previous work experience required.
  • Level II:
    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, creative writing, or a discipline appropriate to the position plus 2 years experience in a related field.
    • May be responsible for training, assisting, or assigning tasks to others.
  • Level III:
    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, creative writing, or a discipline appropriate to the position plus 4 years experience in a related field.
    • May be responsible for training, assisting, or assigning tasks to others.
